What is a Uniter?
The United Utah Party unites all who want to end the extreme partisanship that has corrupted our political conversation. We focus on practical solutions based on common sense and common ground. We are the voice for Utah's Uniters.
The UUP is a group of Utah folks who have grown tired of the incivility and extremism that have grown up in recent years in our political landscape. Name-calling and contention have replaced respectful debate. Both sides tend to dehumanize and vilify their opponents. As a member of the United Utah Party, I pledge to be a Uniter instead of a screamer. The people I disagree with are not evil; I just disagree with them on a specific issue. I have found as I get to know them, I agree with them on many other issues.
Here is a test to see if you may be a Uniter:
-
Did you applaud the state legislature when it nullified a SL County mask mandate in mid-pandemic?
-
Does the anger in politics today excite you in a positive way?
-
Do you praise loud late-night protests in public officials’ front yards?
-
Do you giggle when your political party gerrymanders election district boundaries – because they have the power to do so? Especially if the new shapes are really creative?
-
Are you tickled when your favored candidate dreams up a really cute nickname for their opponent? Like “Sleepy Joe” or “Orange Mango”?
-
Are you offended when a member of your party criticizes an officeholder of your own party on a specific issue and explains why his fellow partisan may be wrong?
-
Do you believe the Deseret News has gone over to the Libs, or that the SL Tribune often lets Trumpists off too easy?
If you answered “NO” to more than three of these questions, you may be a UNITER at heart. If so, feel free to peruse the other pages in this website.
